Description
Position Purpose:
The Risk and Compliance Testing Specialist serves as an integral part of the Testing team to ensure Blue Ridge Bank's Compliance Testing Standards and functions comply with regulatory and legal requirements and enterprise policy. This position supports the Director of Risk & Compliance Oversight by designing and executing against testing plans and programs for various fintech partners and Bank lines of business. This position supports the Compliance Monitoring program, performing ongoing testing and reporting on the activities of the bank's Risk and Compliance functions.
Responsibilities
- Performs of risk oversight testing and monitoring activities to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Ensures individual workpapers are complete and accurate to achieve the overall objective of each test
- Under supervision by more senior staff, may be called to independently interact with fintech partners or lines of business to participate in meetings and walkthroughs, obtain documentation, and discuss program changes/enhancements.
- Executes on testing in accordance with predefined templates and testing plans.
- Responsible for ensuring the company's activities adhere to the necessary rules and regulations, and that the company complies with legal/regulatory statutes and jurisdictions.
- Notifies Risk and Compliance Oversight management on findings and issues discovered during testing.
- Maintains working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations to ensure the bank's compliance testing standard and functions comply with regulatory and legal requirements and enterprise policy.
- Schedules and conducts walkthroughs of business processes with internal and external points of contact. Prepares walkthrough documentation and meeting materials.
- Identifies control and process weaknesses.
- Escalates findings and issues to management.
- Performs independently as well as collaborates in a team environment, across teams within the risk department and enterprise wide to ensure consistency in practices, documentation, and compliance risk management efforts.
- Identifies compliance and control gaps, enhancement opportunities, and potential solutions.
- Escalates problems effectively.
- Identifies outstanding compliance issues.

Requirements
Education and Certifications:
- Associate degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business-related program.
- Experience in related fields will be considered in lieu of specific education requirements.
Skills
- One (1) year experience with Financial Services, specifically in risk, compliance, compliance Testing, Legal, Regulatory, and/or Internal Audit.
- Ability to gain subject matter expertise and experience in Compliance Testing or Internal Audit with compliance focus.
- Working knowledge of regulatory compliance, relevant industry regulations and regulatory data sources.
- Knowledge of risk and control assessments.
- Experience with auditing and reporting procedures.
- Experience using and manipulating data sets to identify relevant attributes within testing populations.
- Familiarity with industry compliance standards and regulations.
- Experience with identifying and resolving complex risk management problems.
- Experience analyzing risk and design efficient control practices to minimize risk.
- Strong computer skills relevant to Microsoft Office Suites (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Knowledge of banking principles and regulations.
- Ability to apply analytical and math skills, organizational skills, and customer service skills.
- Effective verbal and written skills to effectively communicate in the English language required.
- Experience within Banking or similar field.
Abilities
- Ability to learn bank programmed software.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with accounts while providing exceptional customer service.
- Ability to work all branch hours, remote or in office, including weekend and evenings.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, general business correspondence, and/or journals, or government regulations.
- Ability to deal directly with the public, on the phone or face to face, following the Bank’s Customer Service Standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) to three (3) years’ experience with risk management
- One (1) to three (3) years’ experience with Third Party Risk
- One (1) to three (3) years’ experience with BAAS & Fintech Banking Services
